RTX 3080 Ti: it manages to mine Ethereum at 110 MH / s, bad news for gamers?

With a recent RTX 3080 Ti firmware update, miners can skyrocket their hashrate. The YouTuber CryptoMiningDonkey thus managed to reach 110 MH / s, a real record on a graphics card. Unfortunately, this practice may well encourage miners to empty stocks even more, much to the chagrin of gamers.

A few days ago, Nvidia rolled out a firmware update for the RTX 3080 Ti. As often, cryptocurrency miners saw an opportunity to optimize the performance of their graphics card to get more Ethereum. Very quickly, a video from Red Panda Mining demonstrates that by using the updated EVGA XC3 BIOS on an RTX 3080 Ti, it is possible to obtain a record hashrate of 91 MH / s.

Record which is ultimately not one, since it is held by another Youtuber by the name of CryptoMiningDonkey. The latter used the same technique as his partner, this time on an RTX 3080 Ti not coming from EVGA and by flashing the BIOS of an RTX 3090 from DELL. In this way, it achieved up to 21% higher performance, reaching a hashrate of 110 MH / s.

Up to 110 MH / s on an RTX 3080 Ti, we stop the miners

“For those who have a DELL RTX 3080 TI or any other RTX 3080 TI with a device ID that contains 2204 […], you should be able to flash your card with this BIOS 3090 […] and obtain an ETH hashrate greater than 110 MH / s “, explains CryptoMiningDonkey. “I tried it myself, but nvflash and HiveOS flash don’t flash because my ID is 2208. […] Attention, as always, the flashing of your card can brick it, burn your house and kill your cat ”.

For cryptocurrency miners, this is very good news as they are seeing their average hashrate increase by 20 MH / s. For gamers, on the other hand, it’s a different story. While the price of the RTX 3080 Ti has already hit € 2,700, it’s likely that this update won’t help their business. Although risky, this procedure could entice many crypto enthusiasts to always throw more on the smallest available stock regardless of Nvidia’s anti-mining measures.
