The latest comes from JohnnyGuru, who explains that it is absolutely necessary to be careful to connect the 12VHPWR cable correctly to the graphics card . However, several users explain that it is simply impossible for them to follow this advice.

We thought we had found the solution to prevent the RTX 4090s from overheating, but in the end it seems that the problem comes from elsewhere. Summary of the last episodes. But Corsair power supply expert JohnnyGuru has another theory. To test it, he took a Corsair HX1500i, of which he connected the three PCIe cables to the 12VHPWR 16-pin adapter from Nvidia. He then damaged these cables, especially at the level of the weld, while controlling the temperature throughout the process. Verdict: no overheating was observed. Resuming his investigation, he therefore analyzed once again the images shared by users who had been victims of the overheating problem.

He then notices a common point between each of them: on each photo, it seems that the connector is not correctly connected to the graphics card, leaving a vacant space between the latter and the port. In his blog post, JohnnyGuru therefore gives this advice which seems to flow from source: it is imperative to connect these cables well.

At first glance, this theory seems sensible and above all, corroborates with recent testimonials from users who have seen their 12VHPWR cable burn, and not the Nvidia adapter. Only then, a problem persists. On Reddit, users have reported that they simply cannot fully insert the connector into the graphics card. In other words, it would be the too large size of these connectors that could be the cause of the problem.
