Revealed at CES 2023 in January, Video Super Resolution (VSR) was overshadowed by other Nvidia announcements. However, the promise is big on paper: to improve the quality of low-resolution videos. The arrival of the GeForce 531.18 drivers makes it possible to activate this option.
To do this, the VSR leverages the AI-dedicated Tensor units of Nvidia’s RTX 30 and 40 graphics cards to reduce aliasing and artifacts caused by low-resolution video. To take advantage of it, you must of course be equipped with a graphics card ad hoc from the manufacturer and use the latest version of the Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome browser.
To activate the option, you must go to the Nvidia control panel to the item Adjust video image parameters. You should then check the Super-Resolution box; a drop-down menu then allows you to adjust the quality from 1 to 4, 4 being the best, but also the most resource-intensive. Nvidia recommends having at least an RTX xx70 to push the slider to 4.
According to the founder, videos on Twitch, YouTube, Netflix and Hulu are supported and can benefit from Video Super Resolution via the browser.
