Rugby European Cup: Clermont narrowly loses to Ulster, La Rochelle wins brilliantly in Glasgow

Clermont has never won in Ulster and on Saturday, the curse was not broken. Morgan Parra’s teammates, author of 12 points at the foot, did not go far, falling narrowly (34-31) in Ireland.

Thanks to a controlled second period, the Auvergnats almost made us forget the five tries conceded, including three between the 70th and 77th minute. The Jaunards, dominated for more than an hour, tried to come back to score, but they went too far. They will have to wait for the other results of the day to see if they finish in the top eight of their group, synonymous with qualification for the round of 16.

La Rochelle qualified with the bonus

No problem, however, for La Rochelle who delivered a good performance in Glasgow (38-30). Les Rochelais confirmed their top 3 position in Pool A and their qualification for the round of 16 by scoring four tries including a double from Boudehent (40th, 52nd) to pocket the bonus. They were also able to count on a Pierre Popelin, in great shape with 6 out of 8 shots made against the posts.

Strong, precise and efficient, Gregory Aldritt’s teammates showed that they were growing in power as the matches progressed and that they were ready for the final phase.

This success is also the business of the ASM, which could benefit from a second chance.

Glasgow still has a chance but Montpellier could snatch the last ticket tomorrow.
