This Thursday afternoon, shortly before the start of the France-Uruguay match, the supporters present in Lille were able to photograph the Webb-Ellis trophy, that of the Rugby World Cup, which the Blues aim to win. A small attraction that attracted crowds to the city center.

As the Blues prepare to challenge Uruguay at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille, for their second group match in this Rugby World Cup, the supporters, who came to the North to encourage the XV of France, had entitled to a little extra attraction. The Webb-Ellis trophy was, in fact, presented to the crowd on the Grand’Place in Lille.

The most patient queued for several minutes to have their photo taken next to the trophy. “It’s magnificent,” greets a supporter. Everyone believes that this French team will win the Holy Grail of rugby on October 28. “That’s what we’re here for, we’re going to support them,” says another French fan.

“It’s great that we also have rugby in the North”

This unifying XV of France has definitely won hearts. “We feel that there is excitement across France and that the event brings the French together,” testifies this supporter. “I’m very happy to come and see the French team play in Lille. I’m originally from Ch’ti and a rugby fan so it’s great that we also have rugby in the North”, adds this regional player of the stage.

A festive atmosphere, also welcomed by the Uruguayan supporters, present this Thursday in Lille: “It’s magnificent, we are very happy to be here. We are two friends, from Uruguay and everyone is very kind to us and we are very happy to be here.” Joyful visitors, but who would be well advised not to delude themselves. “Victory for France, obviously! 40 to 6, we said that. There will be a lot of tries for us, we’re not really going to crush them, but there will be a big score”, predicts this spectator . Difficult to find as serene and confident in the future as a supporter of the XV of France.
