RUMOR about Counter-Strike 2: a sequel with the Source 2 engine in development and about to be revealed

Everyone knows counter strike, FPS legendary multiplayer launched in 1999 which greatly helped the popularity of the genre. Valve has built its legend around this license (and Half Life) and has since offered new versions with quite similar content, but with improved technologies: Counter-Strike: Sourceusing the SourceEngine in 2004, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, a more cross-platform and mainstream experience. The latter has existed since 2012, and since its transition to free-to-play in 2018, it still attracts nearly 500,000 simultaneous players at all times, or even more, thanks to regular content and balancing updates.

And if, despite this success, Valve wanted to propose a new game opposing terrorists and counter-terrorists? According to rumors from the corridors, if the company is still not working on Half Life 3she would be about to announce a counter strike 2 : two decades later, she would finally dare to change the numbering, marking a real break with the previous parts.

The rumor originated following the latest driver update of NVIDIAwhich curiously mentions applications csgo2.exe And cs2.exe. The journalist Richard Lewis continued by stating that, according to its sources, a sequel to CS:GO would indeed be planned and would therefore be called Counter-Strike 2. He explains that, according to his contacts, a beta would be planned for this month of March, or for April 1 at the latest, a sign that the announcement would be imminent. Handpicked players could have already seen it in action and tested it from offices in Seattle.

Development is said to be well advanced and central to the team behind the license at Valvehence the slowing down of patches on Global Offensive. He even reports that “the big priority is getting it out and polishing it, fixing the bugs and bringing it to the level that people expect from CS”. The game would use engine Source 2 (as Half Life: Alyx), would adopt a tick rate of 128 for faster processing of real-time information and would benefit from a matchmaking optimized. On the other hand, on the content side, no one knows if we would once again be entitled to old remastered maps or if Valve will opt for original maps, even new modes.

Richard Lewis doesn’t have a big history of leaked behind him, so you have to take his word for it, but he still has a big reputation in the world of esports presentation and analysis that he probably wouldn’t put on the line for nothing. If he’s telling the truth, we should be fixed within three weeks!
