RUMOR about Mafia: a new prequel episode to the saga in development at Hangar 13

Yes Mafia II: Definitive Edition did not change the face of the world, Shed 13 surprised many people with Mafia: Definitive Editiona remake generally appreciated. Rumors had it that the studio was also behind Mafia III plank on a open-world in a sci-fi world with supernatural elements, Saints Row meets Cthulhu style. Problem: these same hallway noises reported that the Project Volt had been cancelled, while 2K Games had already injected tens of millions of dollars into it.

One thing is sure, the future of Shed 13 will be done without Haden Blackman, Studio President since its opening at the end of 2014 in Novato, California. He will be replaced by Nick Baynesuntil now director of the antenna Hangar 13 Brighton UK. The message of 2K Games announcing these changes was relayed by VentureBeat.

Hello team,

It is with mixed emotions that I share with you several updates on the direction of Hangar 13.

Haden Blackman is stepping down as studio head of Hangar 13 and leaving the company to pursue his passion in a new venture. We are grateful for Haden’s leadership in creating Hangar 13, building and uniting teams in Novato, Brighton and Czech, and releasing several of the studio’s defining Mafia games and collections. What Haden helped build will continue and grow for years to come. We support all our employees in the pursuit of their passions and we wish them only the best in the future.

Nick Baynes, Studio Director at Hangar 13 Brighton, will take over as Studio Director of Hangar 13. With 30 years of experience as an industry leader, Nick joined Hangar 13 in 2018 to create Hangar 13 Brighton , and has spent the past four years growing the team, building studio capacity, and launching awesome projects like Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia Trilogy.

I hope you’ll join me in thanking Haden and wishing him the best, and congratulating Nick on a well-deserved promotion. Although change can be difficult, it can also bring new opportunities and new successes.

We are confident that the studio is in good hands for the multiple projects underway, and the team has 2K’s full support.

According to KotakuMatthew Urban, Chief Operating Officerwould also have left the team quite recently, as he himself announced on LinkedIn. The site mainly reports that Nick Baynes and his teams are going to work on the management ofa new game Mafiacode name Nero, whose development is not very advanced. It should bea prequel to the trilogy, using theUnreal Engine 5 rather than the homemade engine of Mafia III and remasters. Good news for fans?

While waiting to find out what is really going on at Shed 13, Mafia: Trilogy is available from €19.99 on Amazon.co.uk.
