RUMOR on Embracer Group: Eidos Montreal on an original license and a new Deus Ex, the Onoma studio closed a month after its name change

Accustomed to expensive redemptions, Embrace Group surprised many people by announcing the acquisition of Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square-Enix Montrealas well as their flagship licenses, from Square-Enix earlier this year. Square Enix Montreala specialist in mobile games, seemed in good shape to continue its momentum under the name of Onoma Studiobut it was ultimately decided otherwise.

Jason Schreier from Bloomberg indeed reports thatEmbrace Group decided to close Onoma one month after the formalization of his new identity, as he announced today during an internal meeting. Part of the team will be transferred to Eidos Montreal to focus on PC and console projects, but the future of part of the entity remains uncertain.

Eidos Montreal would also have seen his projects refocused, while a title inspired by “children on bicycles” by Stranger Things Where Knights and Bikes would have been cancelled. He would focus on a new license with a lowered ambition, a new Deus Ex “very, very little advanced”, and even the co-development of the new Fablebecause yes, the Montreal studio would help Playground Games on this project. Crystal Dynamicswhich is working at least on a next tomb Raiderwould not have undergone this restructuring for the moment.

Let’s hope that all the developers manage to get back on their feet and that the quality of future projectsEidos Montreal do not suffer too much from this decision. While waiting to find out what the team has in store for us, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is available from €13.48 on Amazon.co.uk.
