Former US Senator Joe Lieberman has died at the age of 82.
His family said he died as a result of a fall.
In 2000, the Democrat sought the US vice presidency under then-presidential candidate Al Gore.
From 1989 to 2013, Lieberman represented the US state of Connecticut in the Senate, the small chamber of parliament. In 2000, then-Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore nominated him for vice president.
The presidential election was won by Republican George W. Bush. Four years later, Lieberman ran for the office of US president, but failed in his party’s primaries.
