Russia claims that one of its fighter jets destroyed a Ukrainian reconnaissance ship in the Black Sea

For the fifth day in a row, Ukrainian drones shot down in the Moscow region

Russia announced early Tuesday that it had shot down Ukrainian drones for the fifth consecutive day in the Moscow region, where such attacks have been increasing in recent weeks.

“An attempt by the kyiv regime to carry out terrorist attacks using unmanned aerial vehicles has been foiled” overnight from Monday to Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Telegram. “Two drones were detected and destroyed by air defense systems over the territory of the Moscow region”, said the same source. No one was killed in the attack, the ministry said.

According to the mayor of the Russian capital Sergei Sobyanin, who spoke on Telegram, a machine was shot down in the Krasnogorsk area, located 20 kilometers northwest of the Kremlin, and a second in the Chastsy area, in some 50 kilometers southwest of central Moscow. The competent services are on the scene, added the elected official.

“Damage to windows was observed on several floors” of a residential building in Krasnogorsk and several cars parked nearby were damaged, reported the Russian public agency TASS without specifying that this damage was the consequence of a drone attack.

Moscow’s Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo international airports were closed to arrivals and departures, according to TASS, which later announced the resumption of landings at the first two locations.

Drone attacks within the limits of Russian territory have been increasing for several weeks, most often without causing damage or victims, and particularly target the Russian capital, located more than 500 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. Since Friday, the Moscow region has been the target of daily drone attacks that have been foiled by Russian forces.

At the end of July and the beginning of August, aircraft were destroyed above the business district of Moscow, in the west of the capital, causing slight damage to the facade of two towers. In May, two drones were shot down over the Kremlin and other drones hit apartment buildings in Moscow.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was pleased at the end of July that “war is coming to the territory of Russia”.

In the Russian oblast of Briansk, bordering Ukraine, two drones were also detected by the air defense on the night of Monday to Tuesday and “neutralized by electronic warfare systems” before crashing without causing casualties, according to Moscow. On the Black Sea side, two other Ukrainian aircraft were also neutralized on Monday evening and crashed 40 kilometers northwest of the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Moscow in 2014, Russian defense reported.
