DWeddings in spades as a last goodbye, before joining the Ukrainian front. As BFMTV reports, the Russian district of Kourortny, in the Saint Petersburg region, has since Friday, October 14 allowed couples to be married collectively when the man is called up to fight in Ukraine. In the context of mobilization decreed by Vladimir Putin, many men and women are taking advantage of this acceleration of procedures to unite for life.
By the dozens, the couples enter in single file into a room of the civil status office in the Kurortny district before sitting down in their respective places. As Felix Mendelssohn’s “The Wedding March” sounds, the men are all dressed in military fatigues and the women in civilian clothes, as footage from a local television channel shows. Called in turn by the Russian civil authorities, the bride and groom exchange their “da” (“yes”, editor’s note) then their alliances between the rows of chairs, one after the other. The couples then come to sign their marriage contract, under the gaze of the few relatives they were able to invite to the ceremony.
“An additional boost for morale”
As our colleagues relay, the journalists present on the spot explain that these collective and quick marriages motivate the Russian soldiers, just before going to the Ukrainian front. “Knowing that the loved one is at home waiting for their husband is an extra boost for morale. It also gives a feeling of stability, ”says one of them. At the end of the wedding ceremony, the bride and groom even receive a gift from the district: a teapot and a set of cups decorated with blue flowers. Before being separated for long weeks. See forever for the most unfortunate.
