(Reuters) – Russia to grant its airlines a further 50.6 billion rubles (843.9 million euros) in emergency aid as the sector reels from war in Ukraine and Western sanctions , the RBC daily reported on Tuesday, citing a government source.

The funds will be added to the 100 billion ruble plan set up earlier this year which will expire at the end of October.

The press service of the Ministry of Transport declined to comment.

State-owned Aeroflot, which also operates low-cost airline Pobeda, was the main beneficiary of the first tranche of funds.

Since invading Ukraine in February, Russia has seen many of its international air connections cut off, with members of the European Union closing their airspace to it in particular. Other Western sanctions are aimed at reducing Russia’s ability to procure spare parts or maintain its large fleets of Boeing and Airbus planes.
