Popova had justified her concern with fighting the pandemic: Since both the first and second weekends in May stretch over three days due to regular holidays, many Russians would go to their dachas to relax. If you had to leave and then return between May 4th and 7th because of work, that would mean a lot of changes of location – a risk in Corona times.
Most recently, more than 8,800 new corona infections were reported within one day in Russia. According to official corona statistics, the number of deaths rose by almost 400 to around 107,500. According to the statistics office, however, the number of corona deaths is significantly higher. Popova also reported that the spread of virus mutants in Russia has meanwhile been “fairly large”.
