The Russian government is setting up a new system called Oculus.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, the internal situation has become tense in Russia. In order to maintain control over public opinion, the government has decided to set up a new system which allows it to scan the Internet and detect content that it considers to be ” unwanted “.

A system capable of scanning 200,000 photos per day

The Russian-Ukrainian war continues to have repercussions all over the world. We saw it again last week with SpaceX’s decision to introduce safeguards into the Starlink satellite Internet service to prevent its use for military purposes.

But where, obviously apart from Ukraine, the effects of the conflict are most felt, it is in Russia. The government must indeed face a situation which it did not expect: a war which lasts. Thus, to observe public opinion and keep it under control, he set up a new system: Oculus.

The latter, according to the Interface agency, quoted by Reutersis able to parse the texts posted online, but above all, a sign of its power, to analyze some 200,000 photos a day on all social networks.

The dissidents and the LGBT propaganda ” targeted

The first to be sought by the Kremlin are obviously dissidents, critics of the war waged on the territory of neighboring Ukraine. But beyond this worry, quite usual in a country at war, it is also the ” LGBT propaganda which is actively sought after. As a reminder, a new law promulgated at the end of last year definitively bans the “ promotion of non-traditional sexual relations “.

For the Russian Main Radio Frequency Center (MRFC), Oculus is legit. “ The creation of this system is our response to anti-Russian provocations and actions by foreign powers “, we explain. It would be necessary in particular to track the “ fake news whose number, according to this authority, would have exploded in the past year.
