On the 76th day of the war in Ukraine, the fighting continues. Missiles notably targeted the Odessa region on Monday, the Ukrainian army counting seven strikes and deploring one death and five wounded. “The special military operation carried out by Russia in Ukraine is a dirty war which is based on despicable propaganda”, maintained Alain Finkielkraut.
“A fully criminal war”
“Bombings and airstrikes only exceptionally target the military positions of Ukraine, these bombings target schools, hospitals, stations, theaters,” he protested. “Not all wars are criminal, but this one is completely,” he continued on Europe 1.
Since the start of the war, Vladimir Putin has continued to convey the image of a Ukraine totally in the hands of the “Nazis”. “Vladimir Putin and his relays in the media “nazify” at all costs: the Ukrainian government is Nazi, the whole of Ukraine is Nazi, NATO is infested with Nazis, the West itself is Nazified…” lists philosopher.
A propaganda which did not come out of a sick brain, he assures us but which would come from Soviet ideology according to Alain Finkielkraut. “Propaganda does not make Putin shine, it aggravates his isolation. And above all, he does not speak of fascism, but downright Nazism. So he goes a step further. Why? to the great outburst of the West”, he observes.
A European leap
The essayist also took the opportunity to evoke the solidarity and the union of the West and the European Union in this conflict. “The enemy of Europe is the enemy within, that is to say its sexism, its racism, its colonialism. And all of a sudden, Europe discovers in Putin a real enemy and the European Union and the West decide on very severe economic sanctions and even to arm Ukraine to the point of bordering on belligerence”, he concludes while specifying that he is torn between a feeling of solidarity towards Ukraine and “a feeling of fear in the face of the possible extension of this war”.
