Russian military plane violated Swedish airspace

STOCKHOLM, June 15 (Reuters) – A Russian military plane briefly entered Swedish airspace on Friday east of the Baltic Sea island of Gotland, the Swedish military said on Saturday.

The army said it had sent two Gripen fighters to meet the Russian bomber, a Sukhoi SU-24, as it did not respond to a call from air traffic controllers.

The Chief of Staff of the Swedish Air Force, Jonas Wikman, denounced an “unacceptable” provocation on the part of Moscow.

Sweden recently joined NATO after decades of neutrality, in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
