The number two in Russia’s oil sector, Loukoil, called on Thursday to “quickly end” the war in Ukraine, becoming the first major national company to oppose Moscow’s invasion of the country.

“We advocate a rapid end to the armed conflict and fully support its resolution through a process of negotiation and diplomatic means,” the Lukoïl board said in a statement.

Saying he was “concerned about the current tragic events in Ukraine” and expressing “his deep sympathy for all those who have been affected by this tragedy”, Lukoïl assured “to do everything possible to continue to operate in a stable manner in all countries. and regions” of the world.

Loukoil is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is not a public company, unlike other major Russian energy companies such as Rosneft and Gazprom.

The London Stock Exchange on Thursday suspended the listing of financial securities of about twenty Russian companies, including Loukoil.

The financial securities of several Russian companies such as Loukoil have collapsed in recent days since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and were worth only a few cents on an index expressed in dollars on Wednesday evening.
