LONDON (Reuters) – Russian opponent Alexei Navalny, imprisoned in Russia after two convictions, announced on Tuesday that he was the subject of a new indictment which could earn him 15 years in prison.

Alexeï Navalny, detained in the penal colony of Prokov for a sentence of two and a half years, was sentenced on May 24 on appeal to nine years in prison for “fraud” and “contempt of court”.

He is now accused of having formed an extremist organization and of inciting hatred towards the authorities.

“Eight days have not passed since the confirmation of my nine-year sentence that an investigator again showed up and formally charged me with a new case,” Alexei Nalvany said on Twitter.

“It turns out that I created an extremist group in order to incite hatred towards officials and oligarchs. And when they put me in prison, I dared to be unhappy with this situation and I called for rallies. For that they are supposed to add up to 15 more years to my sentence,” he added.
