Russian ship damaged by drones in Black Sea

KYIV, February 14 (Reuters) – Ukrainian naval drones hit and damaged a Russian landing ship off the coast of Crimea, Ukrainska Pravda reported on Wednesday.

The Ukrainian online newspaper posted several videos showing a column of smoke rising above the sea off the southern coast of the peninsula conquered and annexed by Russia in 2014, as well as helicopters flying over the area.

According to Ukrainian MP Oleksi Hontcharenko, the ship targeted was the Caesar Kounikov, which notably participated in the Russo-Georgian war of 2008.

Reuters was unable to verify the information or obtain comment from Ukrainian military intelligence.

Russian news agency RIA, citing the Russian Defense Ministry, reported on Wednesday that six Ukrainian drones were destroyed over the Black Sea. (Pavel Polityuk, Jean-Stéphane Brosse for the French version, edited by Kate Entringer)
