(Reuters) – Russian missile strikes damaged Ukrainian and Singaporean facilities at the Pivdenny port in southern Ukraine’s Odessa region on Friday, President Volodimir Zelensky said.

“They hit the Pivdenny seaport. Several missiles hit port facilities, not only Ukrainian, but also Singaporean,” he said in a video speech to the NATO-Ukraine Council.

One person was injured during the attack, the region’s governor said. The military command in southern Ukraine reported fires. Local Telegram channels broadcast videos showing thick black smoke rising from a site believed to be the site of the attack.

Ukraine has suffered frequent Russian attacks on its port infrastructure since Russia withdrew last summer from a United Nations-brokered deal that guaranteed the security of Ukrainian grain shipments. Since then, Kyiv has set up its own maritime corridor.

Russia has also recently stepped up the use of ballistic missiles, which are harder to intercept, to strike Ukraine’s southern regions.

Last week, the Ukrainian State Railways banned deliveries to the major port of Chornomorsk, also located in the Odessa region.

The Russian attacks may have damaged railway lines leading to the port’s grain terminals, media reported.
