Ryan Gosling: His hidden love for Sandra Bullock, 16 years his senior

From 2001 to 2003, Ryan Gosling secretly loved Sandra Bullock. A cat-and-mouse game with the press began until the Hollywood stars had to give in – and Ryan even declared Sandra one of his great loves.

Ryan Gosling, 43, is a repeat offender. Since 2002, the Hollywood darling has always met his partners on film sets – including after filming “Murder According to Plan”. With the thriller, he not only achieved great fame as an actor for the first time in the early 2000s (the romance “Like a Single Day” catapulted him into Hollywood’s A-league in 2004). At the time, Ryan also fell in love with his fellow actress Sandra Bullock, 59, who was 16 years older than him. It is the story of a hidden love.

Ryan Gosling and Sandra Bullock: A love that only happened behind closed doors

Since 2011, Ryan Gosling has been in a relationship with fellow actress Eva Mendes, 50, whom he met while filming the drama “The Place Beyond the Pines” and with whom he now has two daughters. The very reclusive couple has a golden rule: never appear on red carpets together. “I prefer to be with our girls,” Mendes made clear in the “Shape” interview in 2017, shortly after the birth of her second child Amada.

The love for Rachel McAdams, 45, who met Ryan Gosling in 2004 on the set of the hit film “Like a Single Day”, was lived out completely publicly. Unforgettable: Their performance at the MTV Movie Awards 2005. At that time, the couple won the award for the best kiss on film.

And then there was the secret relationship with Sandra Bullock, which both the actress and the “Barbie” actor never confirmed themselves. They are said to have been in a relationship from 2001 to 2003. At the premiere of Gosling’s film “The Believer” in September 2001, both appeared extremely intimate for the first time on the red carpet.

Hand-holding appearance in Cannes

A good six months later, in May 2002, Ryan Gosling and Sandra Bullock announced their love to everyone. On the red carpet at the 55th Cannes Film Festival, where their film “Murder According to Plan” premiered, they appeared holding hands and giving each other meaningful looks. Bullock held on to Gosling’s arm and signaled to everyone: He’s mine!

First private foray into public

In September 2002, Ryan and Sandra dared to go out in public together for the first time. In Los Angeles they visited the gallery exhibition of their US photographer friend Dan Winters, 61. In February 2003, in an interview with “Cosmopolitan”, the Oscar winner gave a verbal indication for the first time that her relationship with Ryan was not just purely platonic. At the time she said: “If you added the word ‘just’ it would probably be a little lie. So I would say we are friends.”

At the end of 2003 everything was said to be over. But for both Sandra Bullock and Rachel McAdams, many years later, shortly before his relationship with Eva Mendes, Ryan Gosling only had words full of love.

“I had two of the best girlfriends ever”

Because when he was asked in a September 2011 interview with the British Times whether he was taken, the Oscar-nominated actor replied: “I’m in a committed relationship with the film,” and explained: “I had two of everyone’s best friends times. I haven’t met anyone who could surpass them.” But then Eva Mendes came into his life – and the rest is history.
