In early 2019, it is known that Margot Robbie will become Barbie in a live-action film. Allegedly Ryan Gosling is in discussion for Ken.
A live-action film about the popular Barbie doll has been in planning for about three years. In January 2019 it was announced that Margot Robbie (31) will take on the leading role and is also responsible as a producer. Now she seems to have found her Ken: As reported by the industry portal “Deadline”, Ryan Gosling (40) is said to be in the final negotiations for the role, according to insiders.
At first, Gosling allegedly turned down the role due to his busy calendar. However, the production remained persistent and there was a gap in his schedule. The “La La Land” actor was therefore the only choice. According to the “Deadline”, Gosling is now about to sign the contract and the film is therefore facing the green light. Filming is scheduled to begin in 2022.
What is the “Barbie” movie about?
Greta Gerwig (38, “Little Women”), who is writing the script together with Noah Baumbach (52), also acts as a director. Margot Robbie’s production company LuckyChap is responsible for the film project. Warner Bros. and the toy company Mattel enter into a partnership for the first time. Little is known about the planned film so far. In the film database “IMDb” it just saysthat a doll lives in “Barbieland” but is thrown out because it is not perfect enough. Then they experience a real adventure in the real world.
Margot Robbie stated in December 2020 the “Hollywood Reporter” About the film: “Our goal is to say, ‘Whatever you think, we’re giving you something completely different – the thing you didn’t know you wanted'”.
