Ryanair: Calls on EU to protect overflights from strikes

(CercleFinance.com) – As with every strike action, Ryanair calls on the European Commission to take ‘urgent measures to protect overflights and the freedom of movement of EU citizens during the French air traffic control (ATC) strike’ , Monday and Tuesday.

‘These repeated strikes have unfairly forced airlines to cancel thousands of EU overflights while France uses minimum service laws to protect their domestic/short-haul flights while canceling overflights. It’s unfair’, estimates the company which has recorded over the past five months ’58 days of strikes, more than 11 times more than in 2022′.

Last week, Ryanair delivered its petition to the European Commission President’s office, after collecting more than 1.1 million signatures from passengers.

‘Despite this, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has unsurprisingly done nothing to protect these passengers as hundreds of additional European overflights are again canceled yesterday and today,’ the airline adds. .

‘If the ATC unions insist on going on strike, which is their right, then they should cancel flights to/from the affected state and protect overflights instead of canceling them,’ a Ryanair spokesperson fumes .
