Ryanair: return to profits in the third fiscal quarter

(CercleFinance.com) – Ryanair announced on Monday that it had returned to profit over the last three months of 2022 thanks to the strength of air traffic during the holiday period, which supported the price of its tickets.

The low-cost airline said it made a net profit of 211 million euros in its third fiscal quarter, which ended at the end of December, compared with a net loss of 96 million a year earlier.

While its fuel bill rose by 52% to 900 million euros over the quarter, its operating costs excluding kerosene only increased by 26%.

At the same time, its turnover over the period jumped 57% to 2.31 billion euros thanks to passenger traffic of 38.4 million people, up 24%, which reflected in a nine-point increase to 93% in its load factor.

The ‘low-cost’ carrier explains that robust demand has enabled it to raise fares by 14% year-on-year, with prices now back to pre-Covid levels.

For its entire financial year, Ryanair confirms its objective of a profit after tax of between 1,325 and 1,425 million euros.

Following this publication, Ryanair shares fell 1.3% on the Dublin Stock Exchange on Monday, a sharper decline than that recorded at the same time by the ISEQ 20 index (-0.8%).
