THE processors AMD’s AM4 is resisting and new models are extending the lifespan of the platform.
In order to counter Intel, AMD has always been very attentive to monitoring the generation of its platforms. So, even when announcing the AM5, Lisa Su – CEO of the American company – had a word for the AM4.
It was then a question of continuing to follow this aging platform without knowing very well whether new chips were going to be released in this format or if, simply, it was a question of ensuring “after-sales service”.
The 5700X3D from early 2024?
Last June, rumors of a new AM4 processor began to circulate and the following month – July 7 to be exact – AMD did launch a new AM4 chip, the Ryzen 5 5600X3D.
Six months after this launch, AMD still does not seem ready to turn the page on the AM4 since new rumors indicate the release of a big brother at the beginning of next year. Indeed, if we are to believe ECSM on X, there would be question of distributing a Ryzen 7 5700X3D.
The release of this new chip could therefore take place during the first quarter of next year, more than 7 years after the launch of the AM4 platform. Sacred longevity!
At least two more Ryzen AM4s to come
Since the rumors were true for the Ryzen 5 5600X3D, we have no reason to doubt the rumors of the day. Let’s also remember that leaks had mentioned two new X3Ds in AM4.
Leaks from last month which very clearly cited the Ryzen 7 5700X3D and a more modest Ryzen 5 5500X3D. While the second would be a 6-core model with 99 MB of combined cache of which we are still awaiting confirmation, the Ryzen 7 5700X3D promises to be very close to the 5800X3D, with the frequencies slightly lowered.
This would be an 8-core/16-thread chip with 100MB of combined cache (4MB L2 + 96MB L3). The 5800X3D runs at 3.4/4.5 GHz in base/boost, but the 5700X3D would be limited to 3/4.1 GHz. Alas, no pricing information yet: the 5600X3D has a $229 MSRP and the 5800X3D is priced at $449.
