Highly anticipated, the one that will be the least expensive of processors AMD’s X3D is due to land on April 6.

The Ryzen 9 7950X3D, which has been available since February 28, is just one of three processors AMD is considering for its first round of X3D chips on the AM5 platform.

A better distributed cache

Very expensive processor, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D is, as AMD had announced, the most efficient, when it comes to video games. It owes these capabilities in particular to its 3D Vertical Cache.

Thus, when the 7950X has 80 MB of cache memory, the 7950X3D can boast of having 144 thanks to stacking linked to AMD technology. However, the additional cache is unevenly distributed. CCD0 has 96 MB (32+64 MB), while CCD1 has to make do with 32 MB.

A CCD (CPU complex dies) is the section of the processor that houses the cores. On the 7950X3D there are 8 cores per CCD, but some therefore have more cache. A problem that does not exist on the 7800X3D.

More efficient than the 13900K?

This third Ryzen 7000X3D is due out on April 6. It has only one CCD and therefore the additional cache is available for all of its 8 cores. Some testers of the 7950X3D tried to simulate a 7800X3D by disabling the CCD without 3D Vertical Cache with a nice surprise.

As AMD suggests, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D could well be a racing beast in video games. Its promoter mentions a clear superiority compared to Intel’s Core i9-13900K, and the testers mentioned above are aiming for performances very close to those of the 7950X3D… for a price that we hope will be significantly lower.

AMD has indicated that the 7800X3D’s indicative price will be $449 in the United States, but has not announced anything in Europe. Some estimates have placed it at more or less 510 euros, but the listings of two retailers seem to have undermined this optimistic view of things.

Indeed, at Funtech in Slovenia, there is talk of a price of 530 euros, while Future-X in Germany displays a price of 607 euros. No doubt whimsical, other shops indicate more than 800 euros. All this will undoubtedly change with the official launch of the processor. Fingers crossed.
