DECRYPTION – The management company for the rights of authors, composers and music publishers is adapting to this technological development which makes it possible to establish a new source of income.
Almost bicentenary, but still at the forefront of innovation. Sacem, which manages the rights of authors, composers and music publishers, has just announced the signing of an unprecedented partnership agreement with the French platform Pianity, which markets musical NFTs. The principle hardly differs from that of the vinyl collectors distributed at the time in a handful of copies throughout the world. Except that this time it is about works – song, album, image, video – dematerialized.
The members of Sacem, nearly 197,000, who will sell their musical creations tomorrow in the form of NFT from the Pianity platform, will receive remuneration under copyright. And they will also benefit from a “resale right”: in other words, they will earn money with each resale of their NFTs. In the past, rights holders received money only when a CD or vinyl was purchased at Fnac or from a distributor. But not a penny when sold second-hand…
