Sacha Baron Cohen: He was afraid for his life

For a rally in the USA, Sacha Baron Cohen disguised himself as a singer with right-wing ideas. Then it became dangerous for him.

In his roles, including as "Borat" and "Ali G", the British comedian and actor Sacha Baron Cohen (48) has already fooled countless people. In doing so, he sometimes got into situations that could be dangerous for him. Now he remembers in an article for the US news magazine "Time", among other things, an appearance at a rally by gun rights activists in the USA, where he shot material for "Borat 2", which will be released on Amazon Prime Video from October 23 will be seen.

"A few times in my career have I really feared for my life," says the comedian. Cohen had dressed up as a singer with right-wing ideology for the rally. "When the organizers finally stormed onto the stage, I hurried to a nearby getaway vehicle," he writes.

Semi-automatic weapons instead of pitchforks

An angry mob blocked the vehicle's way and beat the car with their fists. Although he was wearing a bulletproof vest, it felt "inadequate" as there were people with semi-automatic firearms in the crowd. Cohen had to use his entire body weight to prevent someone who had pulled the door open from the car. "I was lucky to get out of there in one piece."

In his article, Cohen points out that the coming weeks will tell whether the United States is equally lucky. What is meant is the upcoming presidential election on November 3rd. He also speaks out clearly against US President Donald Trump (74) and explains how dangerous conspiracy theories can be.
