Alongside the deployment of iOS 16, launched earlier this week, and a new version of macOS Monterey, Apple is rolling out a major update to its Navigator with the arrival of Safari 16.

Failing to revolutionize the experience offered by Safari, this new version improves the performance of Apple’s iconic browser, while strengthening its level of security. It also brings some interesting new features, starting with new customization options for tab groups.

More customizable tab groups

Increasingly common on our browsers, tab groups unsurprisingly allow you to group several tabs in one place to organize them more easily and increase productivity. The idea is also to be able to quickly access several tabs without having to keep them all open in Safari.

With Apple’s latest browser update, it is now possible to add different backgrounds for the start page of each tab group. A good way to identify them at first glance. Users will also be able to pin frequently visited websites to a group of tabs, specifying XDA Developers.

Further synchronization between your devices

Intended this time for those who use Safari on several devices simultaneously (on iPhone, iPad and Mac, for example), another new feature will make it possible to synchronize the settings of different websites on all of a user’s devices. To increase security, Apple will also allow users to modify their strong passwords already saved in the keychain to meet the requirements of certain websites.

Still on the security side, Apple also announced that it has deployed security patches on Safari 16. The firm explains that it has corrected a problem that potentially allowed websites to track users through Safari web extensions. Three WebKit vulnerabilities have also been patched, it reads.

This Safari update is rolling out. You should be able to take advantage of it now (or very soon) by going to System Preferences, under the Software Update tab.
