(Boursier.com) — The M88 engine that powers the Rafale omnirole combat aircraft Dassault Aviation passed the milestone of one million operating hours. “This major milestone symbolizes the operational excellence of this engine, which has been in operation for more than two decades and more than 600 have been delivered. Entering service in 2004 with the French armed forces, it equips the Rafale of the French Army. Air and those of the French Navy”, indicates Saffron.

Entirely developed, designed and produced by Safran Aircraft Engines, the M88 engine has demonstrated a level of performance and reliability that meets the highest standards, particularly in the context of overseas operations carried out by the French Army. Its capabilities contribute to the many commercial successes of the Rafale, a true industrial flagship and emblem of our national sovereignty. To date, 284 aircraft have been sold to 7 export customers: Egypt, Qatar, India, Greece, Croatia, United Arab Emirates and Indonesia.

Safran Aircraft Engines is now working on an evolution of the M88 to the F4 standard which will benefit the Rafale fleet of France and the United Arab Emirates. This evolution will be deployed from 2025 and will include more on-board electronics which will make it possible to store a greater number of data necessary for integrated predictive maintenance.
