The SAG Awards had a surprise in store. For the first time in 21 years, a film was able to prevail in both main categories.

The 27th Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) ceremony didn’t take too long for the participating stars. The event, which had to take place virtually due to the corona pandemic, lasted just an hour. The best achievements from film and television were honored – clearly a production won the race.

The musical drama “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” prevailed in both the “Best Actor – Film” and “Best Actress – Film” categories. Viola Davis (55) was visibly happy in front of the camera, and in the evening, widow Taylor spoke for Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020), who died of cancer. It is the first time in 21 years that a film has won the prizes in both main categories. This was last achieved in 1999 by “American Beauty” with Kevin Spacey (61) and Annette Bening (62).

“The Queen’s Gambit”, “Ozark”, “The Crown”

In 2021, the prizes for the best supporting roles in a film went to Daniel Kaluuya (32, “Judas and the Black Messiah”) and Yuh-Jung Youn (73, “Minari”). Mark Ruffalo (53, “I know this much is true”) was honored as “Best Actor in a TV Movie or a Miniseries”, Anya Taylor-Joy (24, “The Ladies’ Gambit”) was delighted with the award as a female counterpart.

The SAG Award for “Best Actor in a Drama Series” went to Jason Bateman (52, “Ozark”), Gillian Anderson (52) was honored for her performance in “The Crown”. Jason Sudeikis (45, “Ted Lasso”) can boast as “Best Actor in a Comedy Series”, Catherine O’Hara (67) received the award for her role in “Schitt’s Creek”.

The sitcom “Schitt’s Creek” also made the running for “Best Comedy Series”, while “The Crown” was named “Best Drama Series”. The “Best Film” award went to the thriller “The Trial of the Chicago 7” with Sacha Baron Cohen (49) and Eddie Redmayne (39).
