Saint-Denis: a driver causes a pile-up and flees after refusing to comply

LE FIGARO INFO – Saturday evening, a driver caused an accident involving four vehicles on the A1 between Paris and Saint-Denis, before fleeing. He had previously refused to stop when municipal police officers from Saint-Denis wanted to intercept him.

A major accident took place on Saturday evening on the A1 towards Paris, involving four vehicles, one of which caught fire, and causing several minor injuries, according to information communicated to the Figaro by the City of Saint-Denis.

According to this same source, the municipal police of the city first spotted during one of their rounds a vehicle which was going up Wilson Avenue “roasting all the fires“. The police then decided to turn on their flashing lights and try to intercept the offending driver. “The car then took a forbidden direction to head towards the A1 in the direction of Paris, then the municipal police officers stopped pursuing it, and did not engage on the A1, because these pursuits are not part of their mission and they are not trained for it“, further specifies the town hall.

But “two or three minutes later“, the municipal police saw smoke on the highway and came to see that the driver had caused an accident, hitting three vehicles. The offending driver’s car caught fire, and he committed a hit-and-run. It was the national police who then took over and started the search – but it is not known, for the time being, whether the driver has been found. Several people were lightly injured in the crash and were treated by paramedics.
