Green MP Sandrine Rousseau was the guest of Europe 1 this Thursday. At the microphone of Sonia Mabrouk, the elected representative of Paris returned to the project of mega-basins in Sainte-Soline and its interest, at the time of global warming. “We are at the first stage of what could be called ‘the water war’,” she said.

It is a highly divisive subject: the storage of rainwater in basins unleashes passions. Solution for some, heresy for others, the discussion around the subject seems impossible to conduct. Proof of this is the violent clashes that took place this weekend in Sainte-Soline in Deux-Sèvres, where several demonstrators and police were injured.

Faced with the events, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin announced this week, to dissolve the association “Les Uprisings of the Earth”. A decision that the EELV deputy for Paris, Sandrine Rousseau, struggles to understand and warns: “I think that we are at a first stage of what can be called ‘the water war'”.

“I really call on people to realize what is happening because we cannot live without fresh water. And there is no reason to grab it for economic purposes. and private when people just need it”, continues the ecologist deputy at the microphone of Europe 1.

“An agricultural model that does not want to evolve”

The mega-basins, “this is what is called a mal-adaptation to global warming”, she adds, stressing that “the agricultural model is a model which does not want to evolve”. “There is no question of an agricultural model taking us to the wall because it is too meaty, because it consumes too much water to monopolize and wage a war of water. water, to the detriment of people who suffer from this lack of water”, adds Sandrine Rousseau.

The only solutions: favor less water-intensive crops and adopt a less meaty diet, recommends the ecologist.
