The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm f/1.2 PRO fixed focal length goes below 800 € at Materiel.net, a drop of around 22% on the price usually observed. It is currently one of our best value for money.
The M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm f/1.2 PRO is, for the Micro 4/3 mount, only the second 25mm – 50mm equivalent – offered by Olympus and the very first lens opening at f/1, 2. Intended, as its name suggests, for professionals adept at photojournalism, shooting in difficult light conditions, shallow depths of field and, to a certain extent, portraits, it aims to establish itself as “the 50 mm” reference for those looking for the best in Micro 4/3, even if it means spending 1299 € for it, its official price when it was launched the day after Photokina 2016.

With this M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm f/1.2 PRO, Olympus signs the best 25mm and, more generally, probably one of the best fixed focal lengths, all focal lengths combined, for the Micro 4/3 system. From the perfect grip to the optical performance of a very high level, we have nothing to reproach it for, if not, perhaps, a still relatively large depth of field at f/1.2 inherent to the size of the sensors. But it’s not his fault. If you have the means, the needs, the desire or all three, don’t hesitate: go for it and shoot!
Strong points
- Excellent optical quality at full aperture.
- Very contained vignetting.
- Tropicalized construction.
- Manual focusing by clutch.
- Internal focus.
- Very short focusing stroke and fluid ring.
- Fast AF.
- Maximum f/1.2 aperture.
- Lockable sun visor.
Weak points
- Clutter.
- No stabilization — but large aperture to compensate. Also, the housing sensor will definitely be stabilized.

It’s not the cheapest Sony E-mount 35mm, nor the brightest or lightest, but this Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 does well on all fronts and shows no real weakness. Pleasant in the field, it displays good optical performance and proves to be an interesting choice for owners of Sony hybrids.
