Throughout France, sales of lost packages, or “mystery packages”, are increasing. Some departments, such as Ariège, host them regularly, and each event is a total success.

Whether it’s when La Poste or a private company like Mon Colis Mystère is in charge, it doesn’t matter who the organizer is, sales of lost packages are always a hit. In Ariège, the company Mon Colis Mystère is opening a pop-up store, this Thursday, February 29, in the Labège 2 shopping center. Even before its opening, there is no room for doubt: the event will be a success . But how will it work for those who participate?

10 tonnes of lost packages put up for sale in a pop-up shop

During this sale, the store will offer for sale no less than ten tons of lost packages, or stamped “NPAI”, for “does not live at the address indicated”. Clothes, gadgets, sneakers, valuables or good deals, Mon Colis Mystère promises that there will be something for everyone.

One of the reasons for the success of these sales is their fun side. Some operations sell packages of 1, 2, 5, 10 or even 100 kilos, as desired. Without really knowing, except by weighing the cardboard “by hand”, what is hidden inside. In Ariège on Thursday, packages await the curious “ at the single price of 14 euros per kilo », Promises the organizer, who will only close the store once the stock is exhausted.

From 9:30 a.m., the first fifteen customers will be able to enter the store and stay there for 10 minutes. And so on, at least until the ten tons are used up.

Parcels that go like hotcakes

The Mon Colis Mystère company had already recently organized a pop-up sale, near Saint-Jean-du-Falga at the beginning of the month, still in Ariège, but also in Toulouse. Each time, success is achieved.

In Ariège, the previous sale was a success, with a queue that had formed before the opening, sometimes with an hour and a half to wait to go in search of the precious item. The two tonnes of packages were sold in just three hours. 500 people came through to grab everything, and make an event that was supposed to last two days last only half a day.

Perhaps lost package enthusiasts will come across a smartphone, laptop or other valuable object, but this probability is still very low. Nevertheless, for a few dozen euros per kilo(s), the practice seems to have a bright future, given the explosion of online sales.
