The Frame has a QLED panel with a diagonal of 50 inches, or 127 cm. A television is not always easy to fit in a living room, that of Samsung has the particularity of having a sleek design, with a frame around the screen, which gives it the look of a painting. Ideal for art lovers or people who don’t like traditional screens, The Frame can display artwork when not in use to watch a movie. Once in standby, its slab, equipped with a matte coating, can display paintings or photographs, for a museum effect. Unfortunately, while some works are available for free, others require a monthly subscription on the Art Store, priced at €4.99 per month.

The Frame is HDMI 2.1 compatible and manages 4K with a variable refresh rate of 100/120 Hz. It is therefore an ideal television for the cinema, as for video games on the next generation console. Its QLED panel displays 4K Ultra HD and is HDR10+ compatible, but not Dolby Vision. Some problems with contrasts and blacks on certain content are to be deplored, but the settings make it possible to correct them, if not to attenuate them. An optical digital audio output allows you to connect an external sound system, in order to overcome the weaknesses of the speakers, which are not powerful enough. Finally, the Tizen operating system, compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, dresses The Frame. The menu is fluid and the navigation ergonomic, with classic SVOD applications and services.

2. Samsung Neo QLED on sale, the top of the image

The Samsung QE55QN700B TV is usually sold for around €1,300. For the summer sales, it is offered at a price of 934.99 euros at Cdiscount, with the promo code 25DES299 to enter the basket.

Samsung’s 55-inch Neo QLED TV, i.e. a diagonal of 138 cm, offers an 8K definition of 7,680 × 4,320 pixels. At a time when almost everyone has gone to 4K, Samsung is already one step ahead. The QE55 is also equipped with the Quantum Processor Lite 8K processor, in order to upscale 4K content to 8K. As for the Neo QLED screen, it is in fact a backlit QLED panel via Mini LEDs, to take advantage of better controlled brightness and contrast. In fact, this technology does not bring much more than OLED, but the image quality is at least there. This television is HDR10 and HDR10+ compatible, but, Samsung obliges, no Dolby Vision on the horizon. Configured in 4K, you’ll be able to enjoy a 120Hz refresh rate, ideal for the PS5 and Xbox Series.

The usual SVOD apps and platforms are present, and Alexa and Google Assistant allow you to navigate menus with the sound of your voice.

3. Xiaomi Q2 QLED 50 inches, the good value for money on sale

The 50-inch model Q2 QLED TV, from Xiaomi, is usually sold for €699. For sales, it is offered at a price of 499 € on the official Xiaomi website. Note that the 55-inch and 65-inch models are also available on promotion.

Released at the end of 2022, this QLED range from Xiaomi is affordable, without compromising on quality. The design of the Q2s is classic, with a frame with very thin edges and a minimalist metal base. The panel benefits from a large space and offers an ultra HD 4K QLED image, for a resolution of 3,840 × 2,160 pixels. Without reaching the level of an OLED screen, the brightness is correct and the image perfectly balanced. HDR is included, as well as Dolby Vision IQ mode, which adapts the brightness of the screen to ambient light, to provide more detail. In fact, there are few differences with Dolby Vision. The brightness and contrast are however perfectly optimized for the mid-range. On the sound side, two speakers with a good power of 15 W deliver Dolby Atmos and DTS-X compatible sound.

Players will be satisfied with a refresh rate limited to 60 Hz and the absence of an HDMI 2.1 port. If you connect your PS5 or Xbox Series to it, the games will still run without any problems. In terms of connections, you will find 3 HDMI ports, two USB ports, an optical output, a 3.5 mm jack port and an Ethernet port. Google TV serves as the operating system for Q2. The OS is fluid and navigation in the menus is well done, with your applications and your SVOD services easily visible, and a relevant content suggestion function. Google Assistant is there to control your TV by voice.

4. Philips The One LED TV with Ambilight magic and €100 less

The 55-inch Phillips Ambilight 55PUS8897 The One TV normally retails for €799. It is offered during the sales at a price of €699 at Darty.

The One is a range of 4K Ultra HD televisions with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. Neither OLED nor QLED, but an excellent quality LED panel, which supports content in Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDR 10 and HDR 10+. Brightness and contrast are good enough to deliver a crisp, clear picture, with truly black blacks, especially in Dolby Atmos. If you’ve had a taste of OLED before, the light can look a little dim at times. However, the TV presets are calibrated to get the best from the panel, with a Dolby Vision Dark mode for cinema and a Video Game mode. Be careful, however, with the saturation for the latter. Note that the refresh rate of 100 Hz is suitable for video game sessions. On the audio side, the two speakers provide a rather clear sound, but slightly behind. A soundbar will take full advantage of Dolby Atmos.

Ambilight technology projects light behind the screen, thanks to LEDs on the rear side. These adapt to the image on the screen, and extend the colors on your wall. The LEDs can also project only ambient light, in the color and intensity of your choice. The Ambilight can of course be deactivated if you do not find the use for it. Finally, The One televisions run on Android TV. The menus are well thought out, and the SVOD services easily accessible. You can also control your TV with voice commands, Google Assistant or Alexa.

5. Samsung Crystal UHD LEDthe TV on sale cheap

The Samsung 55CU7175U TV is normally sold for €549.99. For the summer sales, it is available at a price of €399 at Rue du Commerce.

The 55-inch Samsung Crystal UHD TV is a basic LED TV. Under the name Crystal UHD hides just a commercial argument. Overall, the Samsung TV is still of high quality, with a 4K UHD definition of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, and a 4K processor that upscales incoming video streams to 4K. The refresh rate does not go beyond 60 Hz, but gaming is perfectly possible with a home console. For cinema and series, HDR10, HDR10+ and HDR HLG are present. The image is detailed and the colors rich. Two 10W speakers deliver satisfying audio, compatible with Dolby Audio and Dolby Digital Plus, but lacking in power. Buying a soundbar won’t be too much for a better experience.
