Salma Hayek has revealed that she did not get the role of Trinity in the cult film “Matrix” because she was too “lazy” in the sports casting.

Hollywood star Salma Hayek (54, “Frida”) has revealed why she did not get the female lead Trinity in the science fiction cult film “Matrix” (1999), even though she was one of the main contenders for it.

Failed physical test

“We had already jumped a lot of hurdles, had screen tests and did a lot of auditions, then these stunt coordinators came from Asia and it was about the physique test,” recalled Hayek in the talk show “Red Table Talk” by US actress and presenter Jada Pinkett Smith (49) at the casting.

But it didn’t seem to go so well: “They said to me: ‘You have to run!’ I asked: ‘Where to ?!’ ‘Around, you have to walk around.’ “- She didn’t even make a lap, Hayek admitted. “I’m flexible and nimble, but I’m lazy. I never really went to the gym,” she apologized.

Jada Pinkett Smith also auditioned

Jada Pinkett Smith was also invited to the casting for the lead role and entered the training room right after Hayek. “Oh my god, she was so good,” said the native Mexican with a laugh. “It was so embarrassing. She was so fit, she was so focused, she was so disciplined, she could do it and she was so kind,” enthused Hayek.

But it is well known that Pinkett Smith did not get a chance either. Instead, the Canadian actress Carrie-Anne Moss (53) prevailed for the role alongside superstar Keanu Reeves (56) as Thomas A. “Neo” Anderson. For the wife of Will Smith (52), however, another role jumped out:

In the three sequels of the film, including the upcoming “Matrix 4” (theatrical release expected this year), she played and plays Captain Niobe.
