Salmonellosis: the Kinder factory shut down by the Belgian authorities



L’Belgian food safety agency (AFSCA) announced on Friday that it had ordered the cessation of production at the Kinder chocolate factory, the source of contamination with salmonellosis. She particularly deplores “the incomplete information” provided by the Italian confectionery giant Ferrero.

Reacting to this shutdown, the manufacturer Ferrero said in a press release on Friday acknowledging “that there were internal failures” and presented its “sincere apologies”, assuring all its consumers and business partners to take “all the necessary measures to preserve [leur] complete trust”.

“For several weeks, more than a hundred cases of salmonellosis have been identified in Europe”, indicated the FASFC. According to her, a “link” was established at the end of March between these poisonings and the Ferrero factory in Arlon (Belgium). She recalled that the comprehensive product recall concerned Kinder Surprise, Kinder Surprise Maxi, Kinder Mini Eggs, Schoko-Bons, “and this, regardless of batches and expiry dates”. She also asked distributors to “remove all of these products from the shelves.” The site will reopen once the establishment meets “all food safety rules and requirements”.

The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (AFSCA) called on consumers on Monday not to consume these products “following a series of outbreaks of salmonella declared in various Member States”.
