Salto: how to cancel your subscription?


On February 15, France Télévisions, M6 and TF1, the shareholders of Salto, officially announced the shutdown of the French streaming platform. If it is no longer possible to subscribe to the service, the closure will take effect on March 27th. Here is how to cancel your subscription, as well as all the information to have in mind.

Content accessible until March 27

First of all, it is worth pointing out that Salto subscribers will be able to enjoy films, series, documentaries and other programs on the platform until it is shut down on March 27.

An automatic termination

On the dedicated page of its site, Salto specifies that you can of course cancel your subscription at any time. For this, the procedure is simple, whether on the website or on mobile:

  1. Go to www.salto.fr, the Settings application (on iPhone) or the Play Store (on Android).
  2. Go to My Account, Subscription and billing (site), Apple ID, iCloud, media and purchases (Apple), or Subscriptions (Android)
  3. On the site, once in My subscription, click Cancel. On Apple, the option “Cancel Subscription” will be offered; on Android, an “Undo” option will be available.

Regarding subscriptions taken out via Bouygues Télécom, the site invites you to go to the portal of your Bbox, in the “Subscriptions & games” section, to cancel your subscription.

Finally, for those who have gone through Amazon Prime Video Channels, the procedure is also simple: go to “Account and settings”, then “Channels”. Salto will then be visible, and you can click “Cancel Chain”.

Please note that your subscription will end at the end of the current month, and that it will be automatically terminated if it is still active on March 27.

Automatic reimbursement on a pro rata basis

If you do nothing, and your subscription ends on March 27, the streaming service has set up an automatic refund. This will be based on the number of days remaining in your current month, or the current year if you have opted for the annual offer, via the payment method associated with your account.

Once again, subscriptions made via Bouygues Telecom and Amazon Prime Video are managed by Bouygues and Amazon. Better to go through their respective portals.

What about personal data?

Like all streaming platforms, Salto has collected the personal data of its subscribers. In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Salto retains certain data, and can therefore process it until the platform is shut down on March 27. Exceptionally, however, it will extend the retention of certain data (surveys, account information, surveys, etc.) until April 27, 2023 in order to respond to subscriber requests.

Other more sensitive data, such as invoices and their amounts, emails or contract numbers, are kept for 10 years, in accordance with a French legal obligation. These archives will be encrypted to ensure their security.

The end of the “French Netflix”

Launched in August 2019, and offering a catalog of nearly 500 programs via a VoD/SVoD mix, the Salto platform could boast of a more modest price than the competition (€7.99/month), and some great exclusives , such as the series Yellowstone, small axis, And Just Like That… or the events Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts And Friends: reunion. Despite these meager assets, Salto has never managed to catch up in the platform war against the giants Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Canal+.
