Salto, it’s over: you can no longer subscribe

Salto’s demise materializes. The platform no longer accepts any new subscribers.

Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to subscribe to Salto “: this is what the official page of Salto indicates, in white on black, when you go to the SVOD platform, we noted on February 13, 2023. It is more than ever the swan song for the service abandoned by TF1, M6 and France TV, while no end date has yet been officially announced. The impossibility of subscribing nevertheless looks like an increasingly disastrous fate.

Especially since another sentence supports the imminent disappearance of Salto: ” Thank you to all Salto subscribers for sharing with us their desire and enthusiasm for a Made in France streaming platform. The words used resemble an epitaph, underlining the impression of waste around this initiative. Salto was able to attract around 800,000 people, which unfortunately was not enough to make it a major player in the streaming market.

Another nail in Salto’s coffin

For the moment, there is no official communication about the closure of the service, which has started to deteriorate in recent days (sudden disappearance of programs, for example). Everything suggests that Salto will not survive the winter, which suggests a definitive closure within a month at the most. The fact that we can no longer subscribe is another nail in the coffin of Salto, which has failed to find a buyer and should be placed in receivership.

The “French Netflix” is therefore closing, as was expected in view of the latest news. TF1, M6 and France TV had real ambitions behind Salto, but cannibalized the service by continuing to promote their own platform. This lack of agreement precipitated the fall of Salto, launched in October 2020 after several delays.

The rest will be the time to take stock of this bitter failure, when Salto had normally gathered enough subscribers to hold out over time. There will probably be a lot of regrets, especially in the absence of a buyer who could have taken advantage of this encouraging departure – but poorly supported.
