Jump, it’s over. The shutdown of the platform was officially announced today by its main shareholders and founders, the TF1, France Télévisions and M6 groups, in a press release relayed by our colleagues from puremedias.com. “This decision (…) comes after the abandonment of the merger project between TF1 and M6, which would have allowed the platform to be taken over by the new entity thus formed.” Are mentioned in particular “the complex and constrained governance of this alliance” as well as “the refusal of most operators providing internet access to distribute the platform like the American platforms”.

October 20, 2020 – September 15, 2023

Launched in October 2020, with the ambition of “become essential for all French people”, Salto brought together television and streaming uses within a single service, with some twenty channels accessible live as well as series, films, documentaries, singles, reality TV, youth content, sports and news magazines. Unpublished series, complete or in preview, were notably offered to subscribers, estimated at around 800,000.

If it is no longer possible to subscribe to a subscription since February 13, and this announcement definitively marks the end of the platform, the date of its concrete cessation has not yet been specified. The press release indicates that will be announced “the timetable for stopping the platform and subscriptions shortly. A specific communication will be sent very soon to Salto subscribers to inform them of the consequences on their current subscription”.

Where can I watch daily soap operas in advance?

For the past few days, subscribers who diligently follow the daily soap operas of TF1 and France 2 no longer have access to preview episodes via Salto. They can now opt for two alternative solutions: Tomorrow belongs to us and Here everything begins are only available for rental on Canal VOD, whereas France.tv is offering two advance episodes of Un Si Grand Soleil to fans for free.
