Salzburg’s newcomer – That’s behind Oscar’s shirt number 37

Oscar Gloukh is FC Red Bull Salzburg’s latest achievement. The 18-year-old Israeli will wear shirt number 37 in the spring. “Krone” editor Christoph Nister reveals in his column “Aftermath time” why that’s not his favorite number and why he’ll change soon.

Oscar Gloukh is already a star in Israel. The 18-year-old is a young national player and is considered a great hope for the coming years. This also reinforces his self-image. “I want number 10,” said the youngster, who sees himself as a playmaker. He was promised it in Salzburg – but only for the summer. The reason? Salzburg plans not only in the Bundesliga and in the cup with the “ten”, but also internationally. And this is exactly where the catch lies. Because in autumn Antoine Bernede was given the shirt number 10 at the European Football Association (UEFA). 3+7 = 10 The Frenchman has meanwhile lost, but a number can only be assigned once per club and season. Since it makes little sense to play with different players nationally and internationally, Gloukh has to be patient. He chose the 37 out of necessity – and because the two digits add up to ten. That doesn’t have to be a disadvantage, because the 10 always means more pressure. In the city of Mozart, too, people take a special look at it. At least since Sadio Mané (2013 to 2015) caused a sensation. However, it can also backfire. This is shown not least by the example of Bernede, who – should he return to Salzburg after his loan to Lausanne – has to look for a new number.
