Samsung: a third foldable smartphone could land in 2022

While we expect two foldable smartphones from Samsung in 2022, the manufacturer could present a third this year, the format of which we can already try to guess.

One thing is certain, Samsung wants to keep its image as a pioneer of the foldable smartphone. After last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, we are logically expecting the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 for the year 2022.

However, according to sources from the specialized site Galaxy Club, the South Korean brand was working on a total of three foldable smartphones with three code names: B4, Q4 and N4. The first two probably refer to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 whose predecessors were called B3 and Q3 internally. But what device is hiding behind “N4”?

A two-ply smartphone

To try to answer it, it is interesting to remember that during the last CES, Samsung had shown some prototypes of foldable smartphones proving that it was not short of ideas to potentially develop a new format.

One thinks of the Flex S and Flex G concepts exhibited during the American show. In both cases, we are dealing with a smartphone with two folds. However, the first sees its two shutters bend inwards while the second is more like an accordion.

Remember that these are just assumptions. Nothing allows us to say with certainty that these Flex S and Flex G will one day arrive on the market or what trade names they could possibly take.

Limited production

In the meantime, it would seem a priori that the mysterious “N4” smartphone is only produced in a limited number of copies. The aim would therefore be above all to see how the public would welcome the device before thinking of selling it more intensively.

If this track materializes, we can imagine discovering the famous new folding smartphone in August at the same time as the other two. However, to avoid potential disappointments, it should be noted that the information of Galaxy Club should be viewed with a grain of salt. If this N4 does exist, new information will undoubtedly arise in the coming weeks.
