Samsung is completing its OLED TV range with the new entry-level S85D. The brand remains discreet on this subject, but it is most likely WOLED panels from LG which equip these TVs.

Samsung had mentioned at the beginning of the year a new model of OLED television more affordable than its S95D and S90D for later this year, the S85D is now official.

The S85D with LG panels?

The undisputed leader in the TV market, the South Korean manufacturer announces that this new entry-level OLED television is available in five sizes: 42, 48, 55, 65 and 77 inches. However, only the three largest versions will be available at first:

  • Samsung S85D 55 inches: 1,999 euros
  • Samsung S85D 65 inches: 2,899 euros
  • Samsung S85D 77 inches: 4,399 euros

It is very likely that some or all of these TVs are equipped with a WOLED panel from competitor LG. Indeed, Samsung placed a large order for screens using this technology from LG last year to meet its needs.

Digital Trends contacted Samsung to obtain the information, but the brand pushed back with a response that mastered the language perfectly: “Samsung OLED TVs consistently deliver a premium experience and deliver excellent display performance powered by our NQ4 AI Gen2 processor, regardless of the specific panels integrated into the product”.

The minimum of what we expect from an OLED TV in 2024

For the rest, the S85D is a 4K 120 Hz television, compatible with Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and FreeSync Premium technology. It has four HDMI 2.1 ports (4K at 120 frames per second), including one supporting the HDMI ARC/eARC standard. As always with Samsung, HDR10+ is supported, but not Dolby Vision.

The 55 and 65-inch models have a 20 W two-channel sound system, while the 77-inch model upgrades to a 2.1 audio system with a power of 30 W. Dolby Atmos as well as the in-house Object Tracking Sound Lite and Q-Symphony are very present.

For the OS, we of course find Tizen, with Samsung TV, video streaming apps and some cloud gaming services like GeForce Now or Xbox Cloud Gaming.
