While Samsung didn’t offer a high-end chip this year to go along with its Galaxy S23 series, it’s a different story with the rest of the segments. In a press release, the South Korean manufacturer unveils the Exynos 1380, its new model dedicated to the mid-range, which should be found in the future Galaxy A54.
The Exynos 1380 is the direct successor to the Exynos 1280 that powers last year’s Galaxy A53. A mid-range 5G chip made up of 4 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz (Cortex-A78) and 4 others at 2 GHz (Cortex-A55). For the graphics part, the Mali G68 MP5 chip takes over and should offer much better performance than last year’s model. Samsung announces that it has worked a lot on artificial intelligence since its chip is capable of supporting up to 4.9 billion operations per second.
The photo also seems to have been a major axis of development. The Exynos 1380 can support up to 200 megapixel optics on a single module. When 3 modules are integrated into the smartphone, it can manage up to 16 megapixels per module. In video, capture is possible up to 4K at 30 fps. Finally, on the screen side, Samsung announces support for Full HD + definition with a refresh rate of 140 Hz.
Storage is UFS 3.1 and RAM is based on LPDDR4x/5 technology. With a 5G mobile network, Samsung specifies that its chip can reach download speeds of 3.67 GB / s and 1.38 GB / s in upload.
A processor which therefore does not come to reshuffle the mid-range cards and which simply acts as a slight update to the processor of last year, the Exynos 1280.
