Lightweight cloud storage
The Samsung Cloud is suitable for backing up your Samsung device. The service cannot do much more. The generous storage space of 15 GB and the simple operation should be positively emphasized. Compared to the competition, Samsung Cloud only seems like a nice bonus for your smartphone or tablet.
We liked that
- backup function
- free version with large storage capacity
We didn’t like that
- limited scope
- no backup of photos, videos and documents
- no access to content outside of the Samsung ecosystem

Conclusion
The Samsung Cloud is available to you automatically and free of charge on your Samsung tablet or smartphone. The storage space is a generous 15 gigabytes and can be used for storing messages, contacts, apps and other files. The cloud service is manageable, but a nice addition to any Samsung device.
Samsung’s cloud storage has continued to shrink in recent years. The largest parts of the range of functions are now taken over by OneDrive on tablets and smartphones. The service is also installed on your device from the start. In our test, we will show you what is left of the Samsung Cloud.
Data backup in the cloud
Hidden in the settings of a Galaxy device under “Accounts and Backup” you will find the Samsung Cloud. A handful of data can be saved here. This includes call logs, messages, contacts, calendar, settings, home screen, apps, voice recordings and your watch settings.
On the one hand, this enables the corresponding content to be restored in the event of a device loss or crash. On the other hand, it is also possible to exchange data between your own Samsung devices – for example between Android smartphones and tablets from Samsung.
The regular data backup works without any problems in the test and convinces with a simple design language and fast upload speeds. However, files larger than one gigabyte cannot be backed up. You can manually choose which content and settings are backed up in the cloud. Under the conditions that your screen is off, the device is charged and connected to the Internet, a backup backup takes place every 24 hours

Data management light
As already indicated, storing files such as photos, videos and documents has been outsourced and is only possible via OneDrive or Google Drive. Both services are preinstalled on every Samsung device. Of course, you are not forced to use either service. You can also download another cloud storage.

The management of your stored data is possible in the browser, among other things. However, you only see which data was backed up when and which devices are currently connected to the cloud. The only thing you can do actively via the browser: delete backups.
Syncing with other Samsung devices is quite easy. Provided, of course, that you are logged in with the same account. In this way, you can, for example, easily transfer your calendar or contacts to your tablet.
Storage capacities without expansion options
You get 15 GB of storage space free of charge with the Samsung Cloud. An expansion of the memory for a fee is not offered. Although Samsung undertakes to ensure careful data protection in the terms of use, the provider does not provide any specific information on encryption or the like. According to the terms of use, users should assume that personal data will be transferred to South Korea.
Samsung Cloud: How to cancel the subscription
Since you cannot subscribe to the cloud, cancellation is not offered. Only if you terminate or delete your Samsung account are you no longer logged in to Samsung Cloud and have no access to your backups. The Samsung website explains how to delete your Samsung account.
