A few days ago, we learned that Samsung had started developing connected ring prototypes for a medium or long-term launch. If we were unaware of the production schedule of the Korean manufacturer, it seems that things have finally accelerated in recent weeks.

Indeed, according to information from the Korean site The Electricgenerally very well informed about the production lines, Samsung would have completed the development phase of its first connected ring, the Samsung Galaxy Ring, and could start production as early as August:

Preliminary development of the Galaxy Ring is now in the concept realization stage. When mass production is launched in August, product development will begin in earnest.

According The Electric, Samsung would therefore have the green light to launch mass production of its connected ring, the latest prototypes having been convincing enough for a global launch of the product. Still, it is currently only a window of opportunity for the month of August and Samsung could decide to launch production a few months later. After all, there is no rush, according to the Korean site. Indeed, even in the event of production as early as next month, the connected ring should only be launched during the course of next year.

A ring certified as a medical device

This delay between the production phase and the official announcement of the product would be explained by the certifications necessary for certain functions. As is the case with the electrocardiogram or the analysis of the voltage on its Galaxy Watch, Samsung intends to offer certain measures making the Galaxy Ring a medical device. According The Electricthis approval phase could still last between 10 to 12 months, which could postpone the release of the Galaxy Ring until next summer, probably at the same time as the Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip and Fold 6.

It would then be a culmination for Samsung after years of development. The first rumors around a Samsung connected ring date back to 2015. Even if things seem to have accelerated this year, Samsung would have finally opted for a connected health-oriented ring with a heart rate measurement. The ring could also be used as part of Samsung’s mixed reality headset to handle hand controls.

We will still have to wait before knowing more about the Galaxy Ring. However, the fact that a major technology player is entering this market could boost its appeal in addition to existing brands such as Oura, Circular or Noise.
