Samsung deploys its “Maintenance Mode” internationally


In early August, Samsung rolled out a new feature in Asia: Repair Mode. A new option to protect the user’s personal data when filing for repair of his smartphone. Today, the South Korean firm announces an international deployment of this feature.

For this global provision, the setting adopts the name “Maintenance Mode”. It is currently only available on the Samsung Galaxy S22, provided that the latter are equipped with Android 13 and One UI 5.0. In other words, your smartphone must be as up to date as possible. The firm announces a gradual deployment spanning the year 2023. It should be present on a majority of the brand’s models, but for the time being, Samsung does not provide a precise list of the terminals concerned.

Regarding operation, Samsung explains that its “Maintenance Mode” creates a separate user account, which gives access to the basic and essential services of the smartphone to allow the smooth running of the repair. The setting is in the battery setting and is activated with a single touch. The smartphone then restarts and access to your data is then limited. For more precautions, it is also possible in the menu to save your data. In case something goes wrong in the process, the South Korean company specifies that if necessary, the repairer can download applications via the Galaxy Store portal and that once the mode is exited, all this software and the data thus added will be deleted.
