Samsung Display: soon a 27-inch QD-Oled panel for monitors, including an Apple model?

While LG Display is preparing to produce 27 and 32 inch Oled panels dedicated to monitors, Samsung Display should follow the same path with 27 inch QD-Oled panels for PC screens.

According to our South Korean colleagues from The ElectricChoong Hoon Yi, the CEO of UBI Research, reportedly said: “South Korean manufacturer Samsung Display plans to invest in the construction of a new QD-Oled panel production plant, which will probably be called A5. It will manufacture panels using Gen 8.6 substrates primarily targeting 27-inch monitors. Cupertino should be one of the main customers.”

Apple could therefore use this new panel for an improved version of the Apple Studio Display which, as a reminder, is satisfied with an IPS panel and a basic backlighting system for a price of more than 1700 €. The apple brand could also market a new 27-inch iMac equipped with this QD-Oled panel and the new M2 processor. Samsung Display would also provide Apple with classic Oled tiles for its iPads and MacBooks. The iPad with Oled screen is expected next year, while we will probably have to wait until 2025 for the first MacBook Pro of the same type.

In the meantime, QD-Oled screens are enthroned in monitors from Alienware (AW3423DW and the more affordable AW3423DWF, scheduled for release in late 2022 at around $1,100 in the US), while the Samsung 34 Odyssey G8 is expected in the same time. On the television side, QD-Oled technology has already proven itself on the Sony A95K and Samsung S95B models, both excellent.
