How the price table works

In recent years, the Android tablet market has mainly focused on the high end. But while these products are of new interest to consumers, some telephony players now offer well-finished products that are much more affordable. This is the case of Realme with the Pad or even of Xiaomi with the very successful Pad 5.

Samsung, which is a long-standing player in this market, is renewing its entry-level offering. The Korean giant has just formalized its Galaxy Tab A8, scheduled for the European market at the end of December. This entry-level model is largely inspired by the Galaxy Tab A7, but displays some welcome novelties.

An expected upgrade

The slate has a 10.5-inch LCD screen, displaying 1920 x 1200 pixels, in 16:10 format. It occupies 80% of the front of the device, and displays visibly contained black bands. With dimensions of 246.8 x 161.9 x 6.9 mm and its weight of 508 grams, it is a little heavier than its predecessor (476 g). We appreciate the presence of four speakers compatible with Dolby Atmos, which is always pleasant for viewing content.

Samsung does not specify the nature of the SoC used, but indicates that it offers a 10% gain in performance, both on the CPU and the GPU. Geekbench recently specified that it was probably a Unisoc T618. A chip engraved in 12 nm, composed of two Cortex-A75 and six A55 cores, coupled to a Mali-G52 MP2 GPU. It would therefore replace the Snapdragon 662 present previously. It will be possible to choose between 3 or 4 GB of RAM and 32, 64 or 128 GB of storage, expandable by microSD (up to 1 TB).

On the side of the photo, we are entitled to an 8 Mpx sensor on the back and 5 Mpx on the front. We should not expect miracles, but what is necessary to achieve videoconferencing. The autonomy is ensured by a battery of 7040 mAh compatible with the recharging of 15 W, no block of this power should however be supplied with.

Even if Samsung has not yet communicated on the price, we can expect a price of around 250 €. A 4G model is also planned. The Galaxy Tab A8 will be available in gray, silver, pink and gold. The appointment is therefore made for the end of the year.
